Morocco

Geography

Morocco, which is officially known as the Kingdom of Morocco, is located in the northwest region (Maghreb) of Africa. Morocco's landscape is has rugged mountains and large deserts. It has an are of 710,850 km(sq.) and a population of 33,848,242 with a density 189.31 sq. mi (as of sept 1, 2014). It touches both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Morocco's bordering countries are Algeria snd Western Sahara. Although they do not touch, Morocco is also close to Spain and has a lot of Spanish influences in its culture. The capitol city is Rabat, which is located on the westside of the country. The largest city in Morocco is Casablanca which has a population of 3.36 million(as of 2014). The majority Ethnic group is Arab-Berber (99%) and the official language spoken is Arabic. Islam is the official religion specifically Sunni as the major and Shia and others as minor.

Climate


The climate in Morocco tends to vary because it is diverse in its geological formation. The land types ranging from coastland, mountains, desert, and fertile agricultural land. The climate is mostly Mediterranean which can be compared to the climate of southern California. The northern and central mountains have lush forest. The south east is much dryer with inland deserts. Overall Morocco is generally moderate and subtropical with very hot summers.
